I stuck out my marriage for way too long and ended it only when I could no longer take the alcoholism, serial cheating, and mental illness. It was dangerous. Anyhow, t think a lot of people get scared and threatened when people divorce - they realize it could happen to them, or that they SHOULD divorce and are too scared to do it.
