Just curious, for those who have had their child take a WISC for appeal purposes, should we also give the results to the child's current school? I'm finally looking over the appeal paperwork and we're supposed to send it all to the AAP office in Fairfax, so it looks like it doesn't go through the regular school at all. Should they have that info?
Interesting. I haven't looked at the official paperwork. I'm glad you mentioned that. I would have given it to the school. I'm planning on focusing on it this weekend.
I'd give it to the school so it may help if they have space in the base school level IV class. Also, highly recommend you send appeal package express/overnught mail to get a receipt w/signature--another parent I know just mailed and it was lost :(
Unfortunately, our school doesn't have Local Level IV. :( I wish they did because the stakes wouldn't be so high. Conceivably, my "marginal" child could be placed in a Level IV class if they had it. I talked to the AART and she could not even assure me that my DC will get Level 3 services!!! They are apparently very limited at our school. So it's kind of all or nothing for my DC, which freaks me out a little. If I could get DC into a Local Level IV classroom, I might not be trying to "push" (as many here would say) my 97% child into the GT center. It's strange how you can miss a few questions or be one percentile below and all of a sudden you are entitled to NO services -- when you are 99th percentile in some areas. It doesn't make sense to me. Good suggestion about return receipt requested, though. I will do that.
