Did anyone see this week's episode? I'm a little confused by Dill. Is there something mysterious in his back story that I'm missing? Elijah said, "You were a cute kid" when they were in the restaurant, and something about having seen pictures of him (Dill) as a child and in Vanity Fair. Dill seemed very quiet when Elijah said that. Any insights?
I interpreted Dill's reaction as the response of someone who knows he isn't the most conventionally handsome guy, and is a little sensitive about it because he works in the entertainment industry; also, Elijah is as shallow as they come, and so coming from him, the comment that Dill used to be a cute kid could hold all sorts of sub-texts for someone who is insecure about his looks now. It was a humanizing response that made me sympathize with him. It reminded me of the way certain girls in high school knew they weren't conventionally cute, but would say attention seeking things like "I was a really cute kid. We don't know what happened", signalling their insecurity. Elijah is a shallow jerk who really would notice his date's baldness, etc., and I think Dill knows that. Anyone who has watched Elijah for an episode knows that.
