I realized I'll probably get flamed for this, but I didn't quite... understand... the sex scene w/Elijah and Dill. I mean, what exactly was going on?![]()

Anonymous wrote:Did anyone see this week's episode? I'm a little confused by Dill. Is there something mysterious in his back story that I'm missing? Elijah said, "You were a cute kid" when they were in the restaurant, and something about having seen pictures of him (Dill) as a child and in Vanity Fair. Dill seemed very quiet when Elijah said that. Any insights?

He's a news guy. Totally Anderson Cooper.

Can you be more specific?
NP here. I agree that Hannah's slovenliness is more off-putting than her weight: her clothes don't fit properly, and she frequently wears clothes that don't work for her body type. She doesn't have a consistent "look", but dresses in the disorganized, ill-fitting mix of styles and trends one would expect from a teenager who hasn't learned what works for her body and situation. Her friends all have their own consistent styles, but Hannah is all over the place. In addition, her super short haircut doesn't suit her bone structure and facial features AT ALL. Her teeth are yellow and dirty looking, her makeup (when she wears it) is ineptly applied, and she often shows up to events in outfits that are totally inappropriate. All of this = slovenliness.
But I think the slovenliness is carefully calculated and maintained to signal the personality of "Hannah", so it is absolutely brilliant.
And "Hannah" is not aware that she is homely or slovenly, and the character's confidence is attractive to guys. I have known homely, unkempt women in real life who ended up with fairly normal, decent looking guys. It is the homely women who lack social confidence and ruminate on their own unattractiveness who don't get the guys. "Hannah" as a character is authentic, I think.
Well said.
I'm curious who Hannah (the perfect character as stated above) is touching nerves on? Explain your age/attractiveness/weight/ etc. and why she touches a nerve.
I'm more of the Sex and the City generation, so watching Carrie touches nerves (and I'm Carrie hot!). Watching Hannah, I feel a little removed from it, I want to tell her to watch out for some things, I can/can't believe that this is how it is for these young kids, and I'm a little proud of her for being herself and being confident and blowing things off that I would have angst about. She's like a reallllly younger cousin or something.

The writing and acting is strong, the music is great, and I really like Lena Dunham. Shosh is generally annoying but I enjoyed this most recent ep with her in Japan - actually it made me want to visit Japan someday.
I know Marnie is supposed to be the great beauty in the cast but I can't get over how good Jessa looks in recent episodes. She is just glowing. I think she and Adam make a great couple.
I was thinking that about Jessa too. Not sure what's with her but she looks lovely.
And Lena Dunham is just gross. The hair, the clothes, the attitude - ugh.
To me, Jessa has always been the clear beauty on the show. I love her look, style, and character.
