My thinking is that I know how I took care of my (single set) piercings... I didn't, not like I should have.  By 10, a child is more aware of their own body and hygiene, has more autonomy.  I would never think of altering a child's body just because they are my child; it's their body and their choice, but I think 10 is an appropriate age to think of the long-term consequences, even if the only ones they see are turning the earrings twice a day minimum and spending time cleaning them, for a month!  Horrors!  I think three years in between is also a good gauge for them, they have time to decide if they actually want to do it or if they just want to be like their friends.[/quote]
