We're Republicans at Sidwell, and this year there are probably a dozen kids from NO VA in each of the upper school grades, and my son helps run the Student Republicans and there are a large group of them (over 20 which is a lot for Sidwell!). Mostly, the kids are very respectful of each other and no one really cares as long as you are not on the extreme end of either party.
+1 We are Democrats at SFS with two kids in upper school, and both have friends that lean Republican (or at least their families do)...and I think PP is correct that a lot of the students from Virginia lean conservative. But no one cares to be honest. Unless OP is a tea party member, I think any of the privates in DC would be comfortable fit.
The lack of self-perception here is quite telling. What this means is that the school is NOT conservative-friendly; I quite agree that the RINO establishment is welcome everywhere, especially professional political types. And I question PP above regarding "extreme end of either party." It's not that symmetrical, in my view; a straight-up radical leftist, communist, or green would likely be made to feel welcome at all these schools. Much more welcome than a Tea Partier, I would expect, which is kind of perverse if you think about it.
