Some MD's say it's cheaper than counselling, so poor kids get the pills to.
Another dumb ass   Yes, counseling is going to do wonders for my 6 yr old. I can just see it now... "So Johnny, how does your impulsive behavior effect you in school and at home every day?.....How do you think you can change your behavior so that this doesn't happen anymore...." Your MD is a quack who's been living in a cave for the past 40 yrs. I can tell you that as a mom who also has ADHD, but was only recently diagnosed and medicated due to backwards thinking like your MD's 30 yrs ago - when I take my medication my mind is clear, organized and I process information and am able to think critically. Had I been diagnosed as a child my life would have been very different. I was nearly suicidal in grade school and high school because I felt worthless, stupid and like a 1 legged stool. I struggled every second of my academic life. Always the underachiever. Studying for days and getting a C on a final. Yeah my life was fun. Had I been medicated as a child, I probably would have gone to medical school or law school. Instead I struggled through community college and eventually got my BS. No amount of counseling and behavioral modification would have helped me. Only meds! I will go to my grave knowing and believing that.
