Ah. I was all about the DC flag if you were in the District. I can't say I'd be thrilled to fly a MD flag in front of my home.  Colleges?  Sports teams?  Not that they're any classier than a MD flag.  In that case, American flag, holiday flags, or nothing. [/quote]

The Maryland state flag is the only flag among the 50 U.S. states to be based on English heraldry, and consists of the banner of the proprietor of the Maryland Colony, George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore.

Best 10 State Flags IMHO:

1.  Maryland- see above.  
2.  Texas - the Lone Star, classic color scheme. 
3.  Hawaii - the British Union Jack in the union, and alternating red, white and blue stripes
4.  New Mexico – the only U.S. flag with a Native American symbol, the sun symbol of the Zia, on it.  
5.  Arizona – a bit psychedelic, but cool overall
6.  Ohio – the only pennant shaped flag
7.  Alaska – the bid dipper and the North Star on a field of blue
8.  Tennessee 
9.  Colorado
10.  California
