Absolutely. The Duggars are adherents of the The Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP). This is a conservative, non-denominational Christian organization founded by Bill Gothard in 1961. It promotes "seven principles" for life, focusing on strict biblical literalism, patriarchal authority, and separation from modern culture. The organization has faced serious accusations of religious legalism, abuse, and covering up misconduct. Bill Gothard (who is 92 years old now) was basically the cult leader. In 2014, he stepped down from IBLP after 34 women accused him of sexual harassment and molestation, with some incidents allegedly occurring when the victims were minors. In 2016, Gothard and IBLP were sued by a group of alleged victims, but the lawsuit was dismissed in 2018, as the statute of limitations had been exceeded. Gothard had many political connections with Republican political leaders, including Mike Huckabee, Sonny Perdue, and Sarah Palin. He has never been married, which I find to be extremely telling.
