In a recent admitted students event, they shared the numbers. My DC attended and wrote this down 49,000 applications (SSEN, ED1, EA, ED2, RD) 98% top 10% of their class 21,000 applied EA/ED1 1000 admitted EA/ED1 5% admit rate in EA/ED1 Drumroll please… 18% admit rate in ED1
What is the EDO admit rate? Rumors are 50%. Even if the 18% ED1 number is accurate as the early snapshot (which I doubt), it is not reflective of the overall ED admit rate. Why? Many ED1 are deferred. Some opt for and get in ED2. Changes the denominator. Almost all EA are deferred. Many apply and get in ED2. Changes the denominator. Can’t double-count same applicant as a reject from ED1 when an admit in ED2. Chicago knows this. They are deliberately obfuscating here. Chicago is also using a new tactic: accepting ED1 students as transfers a year later. This is all over reddit. These do not count as ED1 admits. We don’t know what the real denominator is because they want to obfuscate. Conservatively, it is 70%. That is a 26% ED1 admit rate. The middle estimate, if the denominator is 60%, is a 30% ED1 admit rate. The lower estimate, if the denominator is 50%, is a 36% ED1 admit rate. Taking the middle estimate of a 30% ED1 admit rate makes the most sense here. This admit rate used to be in the high 30s before ED0. But ED0 has an estimated 50% admit rate. The ED0/1 admit rate is therefore still in the high 30s. If Chicago wants to be transparent about these numbers, all it has to do is share them, as every other top 20 school does. They don’t, and instead give some obfuscating half truths because idiots like you don’t know any better, and want to believe ED admission at Chicago is much more competitive than it is. Any competent college counselor will tell you Chicago is BS ing you here. But believe what you will…
