It was a staunchly Unionist city during the Civil War. Yes, it was also home to Justice Taney, but that's complicated American history for you.

Dp. I’m AA and been to downtown Frederick several times. All I typically see are white people. I wouldn’t call it diverse. [/quote]There are plenty of black people in Frederick.  They used to mostly hang out at the Green Turtle and ruined that place until it had to close.  The current spot is the Cellar Door on weekends.  Probably 60% black and they play music that caters to that crowd.  As for the rest of the downtown scene, I wouldn't call it whiter than any other place.  No, it's not Baltimore or DC but Google the demographics of Frederick. [/quote]
