I give suggestions to DH, but sometimes I’ll buy myself something (and give it to him to wrap for me) if I see it on sale when I’m shopping for the family. We don’t go crazy at Christmas, but it’s nice to exchange a few gifts—things that people actually need or want vs random crap from the internet or last minute impulse purchases. DH struggles with the plan ahead piece so I’ve had many birthdays and Christmases with a wrapped box with a print out of the item he ordered two days ago and is mystified that it didn’t arrive on time.
+1. DH is actually quite a good gift giver, better than me, but if I run across something i might buy it and give to him to wrap rather than making him go make an extra errand or online purchase. He is not good at stockings but I am so I usually take charge of his and our kids’ stockings but will give him little things for mine otherwise I end up with random junk. Yes, we come from families that have gifts under the tree for everyone.
