Emancipation day would have been a better day to celebrate as its way to local of a holiday.

Good point about holidays celebrating “a particular group of Americans.” And noting how some of these more focused holidays are “thus based on race”.  So many “recent immigrants have no connection to the horrible legacy” of being taxed and colonized by Britain. That would make celebrating so-called “Independence Day” on the 4th of July both racist and irrelevant to the vast majority of Americans, no?
