What's your point? A national holiday is still a pretty important day to the country. The President has the authority to declare any day desired to be free admission. Perhaps he wanted to send a more patriotic message? There are numerous celebrations of Flag day. There's even a huge Marine Corps Memorial showing the raising of the flag over Iwo Jima.

What did you do to commemorate flag day last year?

I vaguely remember maybe 4th grade putting up flags for flag day. But that was the last I heard of it.

I’ll ignore the Trump foolishness. MLK is one of the most important figures in American history. He persevered and never gave up. Not until a White man gunned him down. When the protests and police brutality were shown on TV the country was shocked to see what was going on in these Southern states and demanded change.

The Civil Rights Act is one of the most successful bills passed. It’s take a committed racist to use executive power to eliminate people’s ability to enjoy a federal park on a federal holiday for free. Protests should be happening at the major federal parks around the country.

There are some criticisms of Trump and the Trump Administration that are overblown but this certainly isn't one of them. Emancipation day varies by state. Junteenth marks when the last enslaved people were freed/informed of their emancipation.
All Americans have a connection to the horrible legacy of slavery in that our black countrymen and women are still suffering the aftereffects and continued racism on American soil. The white immigrants benefit from institutionalized racism. The black immigrants are greeted with racism ("sh ithole countries", to wit).

It's absurd. Go back another generation and it was black people enslaving black people.

You know who benefited from slavery in the US? A very small portion of rich white people. You know who the abolitionists were. Poor white people from the Midwest. They fought a war and died to stop the practice. What else do you want?

Democrats especially Northern Democrats were trading in slaves well after the Civil War. Look into Harvard they were sailing down to the Cuban plantations to study plant physiology.

Fast forward to the sixties and the blacks got their Democrat Civil rights bill. Don't have any problems with Democrats exploitation.

This is the kind of competition I can get behind, who can come up with more ways to have holidays.

And, I would argue that a reason that it’s a “holiday for all Americans “ is that it provides an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate freedom for all Americans — unlike Independence Day, which celebrates something very different. DP
