I’m the one who posted this and am even more confused by the reactions it has generated.

To the poster who thought it was a “ridiculous question”, I thought your interpretation was ridiculous.  Of course I didn’t think that “no one, anywhere, is putting alcohol in their egg nog”.  What I was questioning was whether it was still a widespread practice or if it was as outdated as I had previously thought.  There are many foods and drinks that used to be very common, and are still being enjoyed by someone, somewhere, but will never be consumed by most people.

To the poster who gave me a low score for bait, seeing as it wasn’t intended for bait, that was obviously an inflated score, perhaps indicating that they shouldn’t be accusing others of baiting.

To the poster who said it was risky without alcohol, that leads me to ask if it’s common for people to make it from scratch?  While I am sure that some people do so (to satisfy the poster who thinks asking questions is ridiculous), I thought that most people just bought the pasteurized cartons from the dairy section.[/quote]
