I don’t eat anything with eggnog- I spike it with bourbon and grate some nutmeg on top. I also don’t drink the crap that comes in a plastic bottle - gotta get it from a dairy!

To the poster who thought it was a “ridiculous question”, I thought your interpretation was ridiculous. Of course I didn’t think that “no one, anywhere, is putting alcohol in their egg nog”. What I was questioning was whether it was still a widespread practice or if it was as outdated as I had previously thought. There are many foods and drinks that used to be very common, and are still being enjoyed by someone, somewhere, but will never be consumed by most people.

To the poster who gave me a low score for bait, seeing as it wasn’t intended for bait, that was obviously an inflated score, perhaps indicating that they shouldn’t be accusing others of baiting.

To the poster who said it was risky without alcohol, that leads me to ask if it’s common for people to make it from scratch? While I am sure that some people do so (to satisfy the poster who thinks asking questions is ridiculous), I thought that most people just bought the pasteurized cartons from the dairy section.

Yes most people do in the USA. Not so much for other countries, except for some Nordic ones.

While it could be made without alcohol, it's could be risky and it won't last more than a day or so due to the raw eggs and milk combination.

What a ridiculous question. Do you really think no one, anywhere, is putting alcohol in their egg nog?

Personally I don’t do it all the time, but occasionally I’ll add some spiced rum. I very rarely drink, but I have a bottle of spiced rum I keep just for a spiked egg nog during the holidays. One bottle lasts me about two years.

If you’re in the DC area, you must get the South Mountain Creamery egg nog. Not the crap that comes in a plastic bottle. It’s more expensive, but worth it.
