Just saw it on Broadway for first time this summer.  I like Stephen Schwartz's work a lot - but this one not at all.

It was a visual spectacle, and has some famous tunes, but the plot was incoherent and unsatisfying.  I may read the book someday to see if that improves my opinion.[/quote]

I really loved the book and find the musical to be an unacceptable shadow of the book. The book is very much about Elphaba's internal experience and evolution, and while a couple of the songs do a good job with those themes, the rest of the musical feels too broad and focused on style over substance. I never even bothered with the first movie and likely won't watch the second either, but the book is very much worth reading.[/quote]
