[/quote] Kudos to your student for knowing themselves well enough to gravitate more towards research-heavy STEM schools. As for football, I think there are just some schools that are in position to leverage their respective combination of academics and athletics, places like Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA. I mean, if you've got the pedigree, use it. Today's SEC schools are also using their football teams and overall athletics program as a sort of "welcome mat" to get kids interested in the institution.
