LOL. Jesus didn't leave the politics to the politicians - he preached justice, love for our neighbor, standing up for the poor and down trodden, widows and orphans. He would have had a few things to say about our current president, about cutting off foreign aid to children and letting them starve. He would have turned over a few tables at Maralago.
In pretty much every mainline Christian denomination’s interpretation, one of the most important reasons why Jesus was rejected as Messiah was precisely for failing to deliver political liberation from Roman rule for His people. “Render unto Cesar . . . what is Cesar’s” and “My kingdom is not of this world.” Indeed, there is simply no way that Pilate would have tried to release Jesus from crucifixion if Pilate perceived Jesus to be political in the slightest bit. The Romans were keenly aware of the Maccabean Revolt and Jesus, if political, would have been seen as a material threat by Pilate. While Jesus is a political figure in a way for trying to our modern eyes and we are called to bring justice to the world, the idea of Jesus as some kind of Ghandi or MLK-like figure engaged in the political process is just off.
