I would do the 5 o’clock flight because if any problems happen, you will get bumped to the 11 PM flight. Also, I’d much rather arrive at my destination at 5 PM than 11 PM
+1. The last flight of the day is always a risk!
+1 I still remember running in Detroit with my heels in hand to catch the last NorthWest flight to DC (gates had changed and I went to the one mentioned on my ticket). Since it was their hub, someone in another counter called my gate and asked them to wait for the last passenger (me). I still remember the death stares I got from everyone inside the plane. Good times!
If that was the old Detroit airport, that could be quite a distance between gates on different, super-long piers, with no moving walkways. That place was such a dump!
I'm not sure which airport it was. I wasn't there long. It was about 18 years ago when Northwest hadn't merged with Delta yet. But yes, it was quite a distance between the gates and I was panicking and looked like a mad woman running without shoes. The plane was really nice though. I had flown US Airways before then to Newark and it was so bad that I assumed Northwest would be like that, but it was a pleasant surprise.
