I still remember running in Detroit with my heels in hand to catch the last NorthWest flight to DC (gates had changed and I went to the one mentioned on my ticket). Since it was their hub, someone in another counter called my gate and asked them to wait for the last passenger (me). I still remember the death stares I got from everyone inside the plane.

If that was the old Detroit airport, that could be quite a distance between gates on different, super-long piers, with no moving walkways. That place was such a dump!
I'm not sure which airport it was. I wasn't there long. It was about 18 years ago when Northwest hadn't merged with Delta yet. But yes, it was quite a distance between the gates and I was panicking and looked like a mad woman running without shoes. The plane was really nice though. I had flown US Airways before then to Newark and it was so bad that I assumed Northwest would be like that, but it was a pleasant surprise.
