Trans people are people.  Period.

I think dems need to do a better job of communicating this (if anything they’ve been pretty silent in response to the MAGA propaganda about liberals being for the they/thems).

I think 2 things can be entirely true.

First, trans people deserve acceptance and civil rights. They should be allowed to express themselves through pronoun/clothing/appearance and have legal protections. They should benefit from medical research like any other American (just like we invest in learning about hormone therapy for menopause or how cancer treatment affects fertility, etc. we should be doing studies to help improve their care).

Second, we can admit the science isn’t well settled yet regarding things like sports participation and how young transitioning should begin. We can say we care about trans kids, but also want to protect kids who are just experiencing transitory gender dysphoria or other mental illness. It’s a sensitive subject and I think it should be approached with compassion all around.

Oh and I’ll add a third thing — I wish the people who are SO up in arms about hypothetical trans women raping people in bathrooms would also be up in arms about all the cis men who commit rape. Like when Brock Turner does it he’s just a good kid who made a few minutes of bad choices … 🤔 [/quote]
