I think it’s a copout to blame Joe Biden. He is us. We wanted him bad in 2020. We insisted from 2021 to 2024 that we was doing a great job. We embraced the mask mandates, the covid mandates, the open borders, and on and on. We denied that he was senile. We were happy for him to run again in the primaries. We were happy the DNC made it impossible for RFK Jr to fairly participate in the primaries. He didn’t like Pfizer, but we did, so good riddance. We rallied behind Kamala. We didn’t demand an open process. We voted for her. So. While it’s true that we aren’t the bosses of the Party, dcurbanmoms are generally On Board with everything the Party does. Yes, Biden sucks. Bet we too lost to Trump. We too drove the flyover folks to the Republican Party. And we should ask ourselves what we did wrong.

You may have wanted Biden "bad" in 2020 but those of us with at least half a brain already knew he was a piss poor leader and a weak communicator and many of us were smart enough to know that electing 80 year old people as 1st term presidents is a recipe for disaster 4 years down the road.

Biden was a better option than Trump in 2020 but so was Chewbacca and the kid from Paw Patrol. Support for Biden led to a Trump second term. Slow clap for the ignorant Biden supporters.

It’s good for Democrats to support children transitioning and to move history forward on this issue so the parental rights people are looked back on as hateful. It’s a beautiful thing. But if we simultaneously say we aren’t trying to do that, some voters will consider us liars. It’s probably worth it. It’s easier to change history by playing it cool and not activating the opposition. So we can push, deny, push, deny, and eventually the old parental rights parents will be gone and we’ll have a more pro-trans society.

Wanted to add that I think all the crazy moms of Liberty/parental rights people are going to be looked back on with horror decades from now.

These are the people who would have been freaking out about Ruby Bridges.

First it was desegregation that was going to destroy America. And then for a long time it was gay people.

But somehow kids are resilient and mixing with people of other races and sexual orientation didn’t ruin them.

Now it’s trans people and gender identity. Parents flip out about how it’s a perversion to teach kids about this stuff. But I can say first hand it’s truly nbd if you don’t make it one.

It starts young — sure boys can wear dresses. Everyone gets to wear what makes them feel good.

Then you can talk about how sometimes people’s insides don’t match their outsides. They were born a girl, but feel more like a boy so they like to use a name and pronouns that feel right.

My kids are mid/upper elementary now and know about these things but do not really care. We have a trans neighbor. They had a few questions at first when they learned this like 2 years ago, but it has come up exactly zero times ever since. Kids are self centered and won’t freak out about what other people do unless they’re taught it somehow affects them.

Can’t wait until history looks back on these hateful parents for what they truly are.

I think dems need to do a better job of communicating this (if anything they’ve been pretty silent in response to the MAGA propaganda about liberals being for the they/thems).

I think 2 things can be entirely true.

First, trans people deserve acceptance and civil rights. They should be allowed to express themselves through pronoun/clothing/appearance and have legal protections. They should benefit from medical research like any other American (just like we invest in learning about hormone therapy for menopause or how cancer treatment affects fertility, etc. we should be doing studies to help improve their care).

Second, we can admit the science isn’t well settled yet regarding things like sports participation and how young transitioning should begin. We can say we care about trans kids, but also want to protect kids who are just experiencing transitory gender dysphoria or other mental illness. It’s a sensitive subject and I think it should be approached with compassion all around.

Oh and I’ll add a third thing — I wish the people who are SO up in arms about hypothetical trans women raping people in bathrooms would also be up in arms about all the cis men who commit rape. Like when Brock Turner does it he’s just a good kid who made a few minutes of bad choices … 🤔
