It felt like a bunch of Hollywood people just giving themselves a pat on the back. The audience full of stars waiting for the after party felt super cringe. And the skits weren’t funny except for Kate McKinnon and Jon Hamm. It didn’t feel like a tribute, more like a bunch of stars putting on a show for themselves. So, typical Hollywood.
I didn’t get that vibe, but I have enjoyed all of the specials in celebration of the 50th. The Docuseries, the music special, the live concert on Friday, and this episode. I was incredibly nostalgic for Molly Shannon‘s, Sally O’Malley character, and Maya and Amy‘s Bronx beat, and I loved the return of Linda Richmond. I thought Eddie Murphy imitating Tracy Morgan was pretty genius and I loved Marty and Bobby on the concert Friday night doing the mash up. My teens really enjoyed that too, even though they’ve never seen the original skit.
