Anyway, this is about SNL.
Sinead sang War and ripped the Pope’s pic on SNL, and it was a very big deal. It was on the news and talk shows for weeks. She might have been the first celeb canceled (at least in my memory).
The song was a great way to remind everyone of Sinead and her ballsy bananas protest…but in a sweet way by using a sweet song that is forever linked to her.
I’m sorry they didn’t just have a piano accompany Miley. Too many electric guitars and they played the melody at at a weird cadence.
Regardless, Miley can sing. She has a rockstar voice that is both powerful and interesting.
As a Gen X gal who loves comedy and music, I enjoyed the show last night.
Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon were great.
Too bad they didn’t have Dana Carvey. And I wish they would have done more with David Spade (Hollywood minute with that crowd would have been awesome).
I am honestly betting that Dana Carvey was busy and knew he couldn’t make it, because they’ve made a point of featuring him several times during this 50th season. He has guested I want to say 3-4 times this season as church lady and other the elder Bush.
Dana Carvey played Joe Biden through the election episode. I don’t think he’s done the elder-Bush since the W administration.
Oh, you are right, I thought I had seen the bush impression recently, but it was probably in one of the many documentary and old I’ve been watching.
Well point is, they have made a point to include him this season and I’m betting he just was not available for the 50th.

I didn’t get that vibe, but I have enjoyed all of the specials in celebration of the 50th. The Docuseries, the music special, the live concert on Friday, and this episode.
I was incredibly nostalgic for Molly Shannon‘s, Sally O’Malley character, and Maya and Amy‘s Bronx beat, and I loved the return of Linda Richmond. I thought Eddie Murphy imitating Tracy Morgan was pretty genius and I loved Marty and Bobby on the concert Friday night doing the mash up. My teens really enjoyed that too, even though they’ve never seen the original skit.

I watched the entire thing, as did both of my teens who’ve never watched the actual show, save for an occasional YouTube clip. Most of the live skits were pretty lame, but that’s sort of what we’ve come to expect, isn’t it? It’s part of the joke. I laughed heartily at Kate McKinnon, the commercial montage, and the song about how they all have anxiety. I thought the in memorium portion was smart.
All in all, it was exactly what I needed to see this weekend. A piece of American culture (from the mind of a Canadian), a little messy and unpolished. No, it’s not always funny, but they’re up there trying. Seeing what happens.
I loved being reminded of how many comedians I love have come up through that show. I loved the part about NYC through the decades. Was a little sad to see so many beloved people looking so old, though. (Ahem, Bill Murray.)

Agree that the electric guitar was all wrong in this case. Would love to hear Pink try her hand at this song.
