Lorne makes good tv! Another Easter egg/throw back: Miley singing Sinead’s Nothing Compares 2 U. Iconic episode where she ripped up a pic of the Pope. Was quite the scandal back then! And everyone still remembers.
It's Prince's song that Sinead covered. Their inclusion of Miley C, and many others, cements why I have no reason to watch anymore. They often highlight untalented trash.
Sigh. Miley wasn’t asked to sing that song in homage to Prince. He wrote the song, but he never released it as a single and he never received recognition for it. Sinead made it a hit and it’s the song that made her a global star. Anyway, this is about SNL. Sinead sang War and ripped the Pope’s pic on SNL, and it was a very big deal. It was on the news and talk shows for weeks. She might have been the first celeb canceled (at least in my memory). The song was a great way to remind everyone of Sinead and her ballsy bananas protest…but in a sweet way by using a sweet song that is forever linked to her. I’m sorry they didn’t just have a piano accompany Miley. Too many electric guitars and they played the melody at at a weird cadence. Regardless, Miley can sing. She has a rockstar voice that is both powerful and interesting. As a Gen X gal who loves comedy and music, I enjoyed the show last night. Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon were great. Too bad they didn’t have Dana Carvey. And I wish they would have done more with David Spade (Hollywood minute with that crowd would have been awesome).
