Good for your kid? What’s the big deal if kids want to have what other kids have? I cannot stand these comments especially about middle schoolers. Most middle schoolers don’t want to stand out, whether they are popular or not. They just want to fit in and it’s completely developmentally appropriate. Stop acting like your kid is superior.

I had the one that stood out.  She has some things everyone had but mostly her own style by middle school. Funny though the kids who made fun of other  girls for their clothes to the point of cruelty just conformed to what most girls were wearing.  They bullied girls they thought wore babyish clothes. They weren’t wearing anything anyone would look at twice.

I’m sure there’s a few in every school that are very well dressed.   And then you have the kids who dress related to the group she’s in. The anime lovers, music lovers who have every rock band t-shirt ever made.    There are definitely more than one way to dress in middle school.

What an odd thing for a VP to say. I couldn’t imagine ours saying something like that.

I’m the PP you quoted. My point wasn’t  that kids cannot dress as they’d like, clothes are a great form of self expression. My point was I think it’s bizarre when parents come into threads where someone is asking about what middle schoolers like and act like it’s wrong for middle school age kids to want what others have when it’s totally normal and age appropriate. I’d much rather have my kid comfortable in what they are wearing so. They can focus on school. If that’s Ugg slippers and pj pants so be it.
