Maryland is on pace to have its own red wave, in relative terms. Hogan tied with Alsobrooks currently, if you look at the poll with fewer undecided voters, and among all polls Alsobrooks has a ceiling of 46%. I think Hogan wins this one. But if you look at the poll where Alsobrooks is ahead, it shows Harris winning by a lot less that many people would expect, with 10% of voters up for grabs. This poll has Harris up by only 21 points… which is a significant drop from Biden winning by 33 points in 2020. She also runs behind Biden did earlier this year, as Maryland was the one state that actually liked Biden enough for his approval to remain above water. It actually looks like Maryland preferred Biden over Harris. Anyways I don’t remember the last time the Dem candidate won MD by less than 20 points. And now you have a poll that shows the 6th can be flipped! It’s a TINY poll, but it shows Parrott AHEAD of Delaney. And A. Delaney is loaded with her husband’s money, and she’s a pro-business moderate, so it really does generally look like voters prefer the Republican candidate. https://marylandmatters.org/2024/09/05/poll-parrott-delaney-locked-in-tight-contest-for-congressional-seat/ Add to this, the Montgomery County Executive term limits ballot question is most certainly going to pass. This will make Elrich the lamest lame duck in existence. He may as well retire to Cuba and let Madaleno run things through the end. This will set up, if not Blair, someone like Andrew Friedson to run and win in 2026 which is the furthest right we can expect in the county. It’s all in relative terms, but Maryland is making a lurch to the center-right this year.
Friedson is the main driver of this YIMBY missing middle nonsense. I think that, overall, he’s ok, but that might kill his chances in 2026.
No doubt he is shaking in his shoes.
