How is that an excuse?  Who would put their child in foster care while they remarry and raise other children?  Neither his mother nor his father ever really wanted him.  I can’t imagine the feeling of utter abandonment that would haunt you throughout your life. What a terrible thing to do.

NP here. His situation sounds very much like something out of Les Choristes (which is an excellent film) re an orphanage or "boarding school" for "troubled" boys post WW2 where families just dropped off their boys if they didn't feel like taking care of them. Some of the kids were rowdy or discipline problems, some were actual orphans but many had families. Unfortunately situations like Delons were common and tolerated at the time.[/quote]
