Kids better start calling their coaches to make sure they are still on a roster.
A Big10 team dropped 3 2025 recruits apparently.
Do redshirt freshman count as part of the 28? I'm asssuming not. So could a school tell a few 2025 committs they'll need to redshirt their freshman year? I realize it's just putting off solving the problem but just curious?
I would assume you're counted on the roster as a redshirted player. A football redshirt, can play in limited games, for example. From wikipedia: While the redshirt status may be conferred by a coach at the beginning of the year, it is not confirmed until the end of the season, and more specifically, it does not rule an athlete ineligible in advance to participate in the season. If an athlete shows great talent, or there are injuries on the team, the coach may remove the redshirt status and allow the athlete to participate in competition for the remainder of the year. Presumably you'd need to be on the roster for that to happen.
