I honestly don’t get it. Are the parents/players/coaches hoping to notify the ref of a rule they may be unaware of? Hoping the ref becomes more lenient to your team on future calls? Trying to distract them from reffing the game? Just generally need a target to take out frustration? I watch people shouting at refs and I seriously don’t understand what good they can think might possibly come of it. I feel like I’m missing something here.
Because some refs are just terrible. They’re being paid. They aren’t WWII Veterans who should be honored. Do a good job, call a safe and fair game and you won’t get yelled at. If you’re a ref and you’re always getting screamed at, it’s you.
Or you're a referee in a league where ignorant entitled parents with no self-control are constantly at your games
Add in coaches. A coach screamed at a ref this season who looked to be a high schooler until they gave a player a card. It was a foul; but not card worthy and the ref didn't even cite the yellow on the NCSL website. If it gets you your way it's kind of the culture in general. It sucks; but doesn't make it untrue. Until refs start straight up throwing coaches and parents off the sidelines it's not going to stop.
