Not a dog owner here. Yesterday I picked up some poo that someone else had left it in the alley and put it into the nearest trashcan I could fine (which was not mine.) Do I get an exception if I'm picking up poo of some animal that is not mine?
Good question. Curious to hear some response to this. In my neighborhood, lots of people will pick up assorted trash left on the sidewalk (usually just paper or plastic chip bags the wind blew away, but sometimes dog poop), and throw it in the nearest trashcan. I do it too. Seems wrong criticize us do-gooders. Also, what about neighborhoods where the entire can gets dumped? In my neighborhood, the trash truck flips out the entire can. I regularly see people tossing dog poop bags in any nearby can left out on trash day. It's never seemed like a problem to me, and no one in our neighborhood has complained about that on our local listserv. What does get complained about are people who fail to bag the poop, or who leave the bag sitting in the grass. FWIW, I find other people's dog poop bags in my trash cans fairly regularly, and it's never bothered me. I guess if the trash truck refused to take those baggies, I'd be annoyed, but I'd probably be agitating to get the trash trucks to do a better job! I think many people here are way too territorial about their trash cans.
