more than anything
So much is exposure at home. My kid who had most of their education in mcps, religious private now but considering returning, gets mid 90th percentiles on MAPs but literally never learned basic English grammar, punctuation, etc. in MCPS but got straight As in MCPS too. I have to teach them this myself. Also had to do a lot of translating of content into something understandable/engaging.
parenting is hard
So if parents are expected to teach their own children... why do we waste billions on this public education system? I don't know if you are new to this country, but our public education system was adequate for decades, without tutors and parental intervention, in preparing students to make the United States the innovation center of the world. This is definitely a downhill slide...

My point is that this should not depend on the book/English education level/privilege of parents and being able to make time at home for this. When i was in MCPS all this was taught well in school, when teachers had agency to use their own curriculum, were paid relatively way better, and had way lower cost of living in MoCo.

I honestly think this is why DCUM considers them “better”.
Exactly, it's like going back in time 30-40 years to when there was less racial and economic diversity.
