They sound excruciating, it is no surprise that your DH doesn't want to be involved. The other husbands who are there probably also hate it but are putting up with it because their wives insist. When our kids were under 5, I'd coordinate with the other dads to do things with our kids - basically, a play date - but at least I could talk to another man while the kids were running around in the playground or whatever.
