I haven't heard this phrase used by anyone under 50
I’m over 50 and don’t hear it used much either. I find it very misogynistic. I am not depending on someone else for my happiness.
Are you a man? The expression is that everyone in the family is happy if mama is happy. Generally, it’s because women experience more frequent emotional variance. If she is happy, everyone else can be at peace and be happy. If not, everyone else knows it.
No it isn’t. The saying is basic. You want to marry my daughter? The one thing to do is make sure she’s happy. What makes her happy? A good life partner who’s respectful and caring. Who runs most of life? Used to be women, needs to be both husband and wife. Is that true today? In some marriages but not the majority. If the person who drives >90% of the households and family’s functioning is unhappy, and their unhappy about something big & basic (absentee husband or father, abuse, conman no income, addict spouse, zero understanding or listening or emotional support), the whole family is in big trouble.
