The GOP wants to hold a closed deposition first - just like the Democrats have done with J6 - in order to avoid the circus like we saw today.  An open hearing does not allow for the follow up questions that a closed deposition allows.  A closed hearing allows questioners to probe much more deeply than an open hearing allows.  Closed deposition first, then open hearing.

No one was compelled to testify before the J6 committee. Everyone appeared voluntarily. The committee decided they didn't have the time to force anyone who resisted to testify. Witnesses were allowed to insist on conditions for their testimony.[/quote]
