They are too emotionally invested in their yard signs and terrified of being called racist if they acknowledge that crime occurs more frequently now than it did a few years ago. I would also point out that if your expectations and tolerances for behavior for the one group of people is different for another group of people - and the defining characteristic of those groups are race - then you are STILL a racist.
