UVA, UNC, Ga. Tech, St. Andrews, Kings College London.
GATech is not a safety with that stat if you are majoring in Cs. DS had a 1580, 4.92 wgpa, 4.0 uwgpa, CS major. Rejected.
That’s the thing…it’s hard to predict anything these days to classify schools as a safety or target anymore. It’s really become a lottery. I’m going to through applications now with #2, but let me explain DC #1 stats from HS class of 2022….1540 SAT (800 math), 4.0 uw, 4.6 w. He applied to many schools as CS major. Got into Cornell, Michigan, UT Austin, UCLA, GA Tech, UVA, UMD, VaTech, UCSD, George Mason, and UMass Amherst. Waitlisted at Princeton, Purdue, and UPenn. Rejected at UIUC, MIT, U Wash, and Berkeley.
Did you get fee waivers for any of those? That looks like over $1000 to submit those applications? Great results, BTW
No, we did not get fee waivers. Colleges were not really doing tours and college visits due to COVID when he was applying. We ended up using our college visit funds to cast a wide net with applications, applying to lots of schools, and then we did the admitted students days in person at his top choices to make the choice. The approach was a little backwards but actually ended up working well for us. For what it’s worth, we all still chuckle that he was WL at Purdue alongside Princeton.
