GATech is not a safety with that stat if you are majoring in Cs. DS had a 1580, 4.92 wgpa, 4.0 uwgpa, CS major. Rejected.
That’s the thing…it’s hard to predict anything these days to classify schools as a safety or target anymore. It’s really become a lottery.
I’m going to through applications now with #2, but let me explain DC #1 stats from HS class of 2022….1540 SAT (800 math), 4.0 uw, 4.6 w. He applied to many schools as CS major. Got into Cornell, Michigan, UT Austin, UCLA, GA Tech, UVA, UMD, VaTech, UCSD, George Mason, and UMass Amherst. Waitlisted at Princeton, Purdue, and UPenn. Rejected at UIUC, MIT, U Wash, and Berkeley.
Did you get fee waivers for any of those? That looks like over $1000 to submit those applications?
Great results, BTW

None of those are a safety. For anyone. Read CC and you’ll see. Those are matches.
Why would I rely on CC or any forums? Most people always claim that top school admission is purely random. It’s not. We were very sure those schools were DC’s safeties and the admission results validated our understanding with all acceptances.

Anonymous wrote:Kid has 1550 and almost all As, lots of APs. Real safety is UMD (early action), though people say that's not a safety. Also probably applying to GW and Pitt.

I'm a little confused why it is so shocking to any of you that most colleges do not want to fill their entire freshmen classes with computer science majors, most of which also fit into a few standard socioeconomic and gendered demographics. (Ie male, suburban, umc.)
I'm not saying you should game the system by having your kid declare a different major... I'm saying your kids should have different majors. I know a lot of high-flyers in tech. All with undergrad degrees in the humanities and hard sciences.
