I applaud you OP and am with you. I'm an immigrant and know how not to spend money anyway. It's harder now that I'm married to an American and have a child as my spouse has no idea how to save and invest in general. I have to constantly put breaks on spending in our household. We don't go out to eat much, only on special occasions ( like maybe 5 times a year), we never order any take outs. We do splurge on travel 1-2 a year ( we love travelling). We never buy any coffee and drive older cars. We have enough money to retire, but still keep going because our child is still in school and heading soon to college. [/quote]
