It seems like slacking is the new cool. Even if you put in 40 hours, people don’t understand. Quiet quitting, lazy girl jobs, etc. are now all the rage. People want to count their commute in their 40 hours. People want to sabotage RTO by exaggerating time on in-office conversations, coffee breaks, etc. Here’s what I don’t understand: all these people are getting paid, so why the bitterness? In fact, most people have received hefty pay increases that well exceed their personal inflation rate. Yet, they seem angry at their employer, their job, and their coworkers. It’s like they expect to be paid and to do nothing. Where did this expectation come from?
I’m with ya OP. I don’t understand it either. I just took over a new team and have some people that are legitimately surprised that I expect them to work every day. They take off all the time on short notice, barely do any work, and the little work they do is very poor quality. Even other teams have noticed and complained about it. They legit want something (a paycheck) for nothing. And apparently their old boss allowed this nonsense by doing their work himself to avoid the more difficult path of firing these lazy bastards and replacing them with productive workers.
