It happens. When my FIL was in his 30s, he and a coworker were eating sub sandwiches in a car on their lunch break between client meetings. The coworker choked on the sandwich. FIL had to pull over, pull him out of his seat belt and the car, tried to perform the Heimlich while screaming for help (no cell phones then). The coworker died- a healthy 40yo husband and dad of 2. It's not your nanny's fault. Be thankful things played out as they did.
When I was in HS I was in the passenger seat in a friend’s 2 door car and another friend in the back seat behind me started choking. The driver, also in HS, saw in the rear view. She stopped the car in the middle of the road, ran around the car, opened my door, pushed my seat forward, pulled our friend out, and did the Heimlich on the side of the road. I was completely clueless that he was choking and she was so terrified that she couldn’t say anything, only act. Thankfully she was successful, but it was so scary. I’m very particular about what I let my kids eat in the car for this reason.
