Don't ever forget.... If LJ doesn't get hurt 2 years in a row, the Bengals aren't even division champions Signed, Bitter Ravens Fan
This is not wrong, and I am not a Ravens fan. The Bengals have gotten fortunate with some flukey years last year and this year. They've gotten fortunate with injuries on opposing teams and schedule quirks. I do think Burrow is talented but Cincinnati has a history of chewing up talented QBs. Something about the organization or the culture maybe, I'm not sure. As a team, Cincinnati always seems to overestimate itself in this weird way that hinders the teams success. They've had some incredible players over the years, a lot of really dynamic playmakers who have made the team fun to watch. But I think they lack a core stability that you need in a championship team. When you look at champions, they've often got this core of selfless players who just show up, do the job at an elite level, and put the team first. I think Cincinnati struggles to cultivate that attitude. You see it in the way Burrow often talks with a chip on his shoulder (dude, you've been the league three years and you've been to the AFC championship twice and the SB once -- you have not earned a chip!), the way the players were blaming each other after the game last night. Cincinnati's organization just does not seem to know how to cultivate the mindset you need to go all the way. They might still win a SB one year, anything can happen, but I don't view them as a perennial powerhouse even when they have very talented teams because there is something off about their DNA.
I actually think the team has been a LOT more stable under Zac Taylor. They had some crucial mistakes last night, culminating with the penalty on Ossai (who otherwise had a really good game) but honestly I'm not sure the offense would have pulled out a win in OT either. They decimated offensive line did pretty well vs. Buffalo but clearly struggled last night to protect Burrow. That needs to be a priority going forward because otherwise (and it was this year but the untimely injuries to the OL really cost them). I find it funny that Burrow seems to trigger so many people and hope he and the ret of the team takes the loss as motivation going into next season.
