[/quote] Today, many don’t seem to know that U.S. college rankings have been around since the 1920’s, at least among academics. They were completed infrequently and based on surveys of administrators. They mostly helped to guide academic networks. I don’t know about the earliest rankings, but I do know that in the 1950’s Vanderbilt was considered a regional peer to the Ivies. In fact, there was talk about creating a conference of better private southern schools to play the Ivies, but it didn’t gain traction. [/quote]
