NP here. I've been on Wegovy, then Ozempic when the Wegovy coupon ended, and now Mounjaro 7.5. I was 5'4" and 185 when I started (at age 53) and I'm now 135. My experience going off the drugs (from Wegovy to Ozempic, then Ozempic to Mounjaro given delays in being able to fill the scripts) was that the hunger did come roaring back, but not to the extent that I gained significant weight back. But enough (maybe 10 pounds?) that I was motivated to get back on the drugs. For anyone complaining about "overweight" people getting these drugs -- I agree that people shouldn't get them just to lose 10 pounds. But overweight is a condition that's very hard to change, especially but not limited to if you're in perimenopause or menopause, if you have hypothyroidism, or any number of other issues that makes it extremely hard to lose weight no matter how much you cut calories, cut carbs, exercise, you name it. We have some level of control over what we eat, but that doesn't mean we have total control over how much we eat based on hunger. That's hormonally driven. If your metabolism is deranged, you can deprive yourself all you want until the cows come home and you're extremely likely to regain any weight you've managed to lose through massive deprivation. These drugs are a game-changer, and we should be happy for anyone who uses them to get back from overweight into normal ranges. They're not just for obese people and we shouldn't tell people they can't have these drugs until they're obese. There are plenty of increased risk factors from being overweight, and there's much less cost to society of people are able to control their weight rather than waiting until they have diabetes, cancer, or other health issues to treat those then.
