You'd prefer that for your personal schedule, but in terms of learning it's widely accepted that shorter but more frequent breaks are better for learning and prevent learning loss. A long summer is awful for learning loss.

Having a day off here or there is actually very productive for many. It's why even workplaces are starting to look at 4 day work weeks.

I get it - for parents with younger kids who are both working (this was my situation), the random days off are really hard. But now that I have one in 5th and one in middle school on that early schedule, I really appreciate them having days off to recharge. We've found that sports and music lessons still happen on these days off but it's much more relaxing to not have to rush to and from school for one day. And missing one day of school does not result in the kids forgetting the previous lesson and teachers having to reteach.
