The reason Berkeley and UCLA became hot with the Chinese is because it's more accessible by air and because a large Chinese immigrant community started in the port cities of L.A. and San Francisco (see The Joy Luck Club). Also many Chinese men left China to work on the railroads here and ended up in cities where the terminals ended. Hence, Berkeley and UCLA became more accessible and once a few students got in, word spread, and now those schools are seen as the top schools to get into from China. It's all about community and language support.[/quote]
