He took algebra 1 in 8th grade in public school and got an A. Most private schools require placement tests for all incoming freshmen for math and foreign language. I guess that A didn’t mean much because he and his friends had to retake algebra 1 in 9th grade and he got a C. Public school grades are pretty meaningless. I was always surprised that he got straight As in middle school. His work was not A work in any way, shape or form. [/quote]

Are you MCPS, as most kids who are bright take Algebra in 7th, some 6th.  Sounds like your kid isn't very strong in math. And, it sounds like your kid had bad teachers and you didn't look over the homework/classwork and work with him to help him.[/quote]
