Right, just think about all of the teen heartthrobs that were in the closet back then - Ricky Martin, Jon Knight, Lance Bass…Part of their appeal is that young girls fantasize the guys are singing [i]to them[/i]. It’s like that classic episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Tevin Campbell serenaded Ashley. That fantasy doesn’t work if the singer is openly gay.
Contrast this with someone like [b]Luther Vandross who everyone knew was gay[/b] but still loved.
