16:14 - you have posted nothing to back up the attack comments. Certainly no posters here have bashed the Superintendent or teachers. That is unless you count the very obvious statements of doubt that teachers can effectively teach to classroom of very widely varying ability levels. I don't view that as bashing though - instead it's a recognition of the challenge in that. If some in GTA (individual people are different from an entire organization, by tthe way) have done so in the past, I have gotten the impression from these threads that attacks on the Superintendent might be because he has not effectively required each school to actually abide by the county's GT policy (http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/ioa.pdf) which is actually quite good but from what I hear (DD is a preschooler) is not actually implemented in many schools, plus there seem to be attempts to shift away entirely from this approach. I am sure there are SOME other parents on the east side that don't think ability groupin gis good, but I think most of us agree that it is the best way to address the needs of kids who show up at school with very very different levels of readiness.
there is just one group that keeps quoting the IOA policy--the GTA. Will you agree to stop asking MCPS to label your kids GT if we support your effort to get grouping???
I quoted IOA, not because I am from, but because I helped a friend in appealing a magnet selection decision. Should not GTA know and quote IOA if they are advocating to MCPS to provide the service documented in MCPS policies? Is it wrong to expect a public organization to follow its own policy? BTW, I promise I will stop using the label for my kids if your group (since you said "we") can get us the ability grouping in local schools. Now can you identify your organization?
meant to say "not because I am from GTA"
